We are in the last week of the Nutrition Challenge with only half of this week remaining! Thursday March 10 is the last day for attendance. We have some very close attendance races with 5 teams within 1/2 a day per team average. Keep it up, this is it! it’s gonna be a nail biter. So many of you have obvious body composition changes and it will be interesting to see the data to support your hard work. I hope all of you are feeling better, more alert and sleeping better. I hope you will use this challenge as an opportunity to see your potential, your will power and your ability to perform better with proper fuel in your body.
For the conclusion of the nutrition challenge we will NOT be scheduling “Jackie” as a daily WOD. It will be up to you to perform it and log your score for final tally. Also, we will need to see sheets from both your first and final dunk tank results to enter data on body comp change. Please have all data to me by Saturday March 12 for final review. Thanks
We have come up with a scoring system which we feel is fair and reasonable and gives everyone an opportunity to get back in the challenge even if attendance scores weren’t that great. This will be a great equalizer for all teams should you have good results in your Body comp test and new “Jackie” score.

Open Season is HERE!!! Great job to everyone who attacked 16.2 over the weekend! Although you may not feel you got much of a workout through the programming of 16.2, understand the Open, and CrossFit as a whole is a measure of potential over “Broad Times and Modal Domains.” That is why we program 5 minute workouts and 25 minute workouts. I can’t stress enough how proud of all of you I am. We have 67 athletes signed up which is our biggest year yet. You guys are AWESOME. It takes a lot of courage to put yourselves out there for the unknown and unknowable. 16.2 was a nasty test of your engine and sprinting abilities along with skill and time management. You all came out unscathed and will be ready to tackle 16.3. For those who couldn’t make it in Friday or yesterday, we are here from 9-11am this morning to judge any athlete who needs to get the workout in.
Join us Thursday evenings here at the Box at 7:00pm during the Open to view the live release of the workouts followed by the celebrity face off performing the workouts. This week will be very interesting as they have slated a Master athlete with a Teen athlete to go head to head. Both athletes are champions in their respective age group from last year’s CrossFit Games. We will have the big screen set up in the lobby for anyone who wants to hang out and watch the festivities.

It is our pleasure to be participating again in Workout To Wipeout Domestic Violence which will be held Saturday March 19. This is our 5th year as a venue for this event (every year since the program started) and we are proud to do our part. While we will be performing The Open WOD 16.4 we ask you to bring a donation of $25 to support A New Direction. You can pre-register and make a donation on line by clicking here, or bring a generous donation Saturday March 19.
A New Direction Beverly Morgan Park (AND) was founded in 2011 by a grassroots group of community members and other professionals who saw a need–the need to help women and children in the Beverly/Morgan Park community who are victims of domestic violence. These individuals felt it was no longer acceptable to let this issue stand unaddressed in our community.
AND is dedicated to helping women break the cycle of violence. In 2013, thanks to a generous earmarked gift from the Mary Elizabeth Waller Foundation, AND added a children’s therapist to its staff. And, recently, AND was proud to announce the hire of its first Executive Director.
AND is committed to all who utilize its services, as well as its donors and stakeholders. Though our clients are primarily from the Beverly/Morgan Park community (Chicago), AND has no geographic boundaries, and serves women, men and children from any area with the vision to, one day, have every home be safe and free of domestic violence and abuse.
Athletes: please do us a solid in an effort to conserve plastic cups and the CFB janitorial budget by bringing a water bottle from home. There are days the Box looks like a bar with all the half full water cups. Supplying cups is a courtesy however the excess has gotten out of hand and taken advantage of. Thanks
Winter has been mild, which means puddles and mud. Please bring an indoor pair of shoes so not to track in salt and muck from the outside onto the gym floor. Wet, salty shoes wreaks havoc on the rowing machine foot pegs, the rubber floor and everyone’s clothing when they drop down in a puddle of someone else’s shoe muck. Also the floor when wet can be incredibly slippery. Thanks for your cooperation.
Thanks to all of you who are “liking” the daily web posts on Facebook. It really is working and we are now reaching 400-500 of you a day which is a great boost. People have been telling us they are now getting the WOD posts on Facebook to come up on their newsfeed. This is great news, so please continue so we can expand our reach and share with the area our program. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
For those who have taken a shine to Olympic Lifting, there are a few events coming up in new year that we can get you trained for and get you involved.
