Rest, prepare for “Murph”
CF Kids:Varsity (13-17 years)Cancelled
JV (6-12 years) 12:00-12:35pm
Tomorrow is Murph Day. An opportunity for us as Americans and CrossFitters to pay homage to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting and fighting for our freedom. We hope to have a high turnout for 1. an opportunity to get a WOD in and 2. to honor those who serve. This is an open event to all our friends, family and acquaintances, so spread the word and lets make this our biggest Murph Day yet. We are proud to be an official home for Forged®Memorial Day Murph Challenge. Click here get registered, make a donation and get yourself a snazzy T-shirt which sends proceeds to the Lt. Michael Murphy Scholarship Fund.
Congratulations to our two teams which participated in “Girls Gone Rx” at CrossFit Rise yesterday. Big Butts & Coconuts (Jess, Jackie, Jennay) finished the day in 6th place and Tats, Tabata & T2B (Ashley, Erika, Jail) finished the day right behind them in 7th. They all fought hard and the competition was fierce.
Mark Canella the USAW coach who will be coming in to run our cert next weekend has offered his services and expertise to run a private coaching session to all CFB athletes who want some high caliber eyes watching, cuing and helping improve their Olympic lifts. The session will be next Friday May 29 in the afternoon (We will have details of exact start time.) If you are interested please post to comments to this post so we can get a head count for Mark.
The box will be CLOSED next Saturday and Sunday May 30-31 as we will be hosting a USAW Weight lifting seminar and certification. We will make arrangements for a Park WOD on Saturday, but no activities Sunday at the Box.
The Granite Games Qualifier has been scheduled to begin June 17 and we are signed up as an affiliate to start a community. This is a four week in house qualifier which will act just like the Open. Based on rank you may qualify to participate in the 2015 Granite Games in St. Cloud, MN. If you do not qualify but are an active participant you will have first dibs to sign up for the Open events (teams of 2 same gender) before registration opens to the public. If you enjoyed the Open and would like to see if you can qualify for a more regional event The Granite Games is a great proving ground. For those of us who went last year we were fortunate to rub elbows with athletes like Sam Briggs, Mat Fraser, Stacie Tovar, Lauren Fisher and many other Games athletes. The event in Minnesota will be Sept 11-13, with the online qualifier beginning June 17. Click here to register. As of today there are only three of us signed up. I hope more will consider performing in the qualifier.
Saturday June 13 is the Sayre Park Open. Sayre Park is one of the most historic weight lifting clubs in the US and is located just outside of Oak Park. A USAW sanctioned event for all weightlifting abilities. If you are interested in signing up as a representative of Beverly Area Barbell Club you will need to be a USAW member and select Beverly Area Barbell Club as your affiliate. You can become a USAW member here.
Saturday June 27 is the Second Annual CFB Pool Party hosted by Beetle and Angie. We have a number of birthday’s to celebrate that weekend as well as an opportunity to hang socially with your box mates and chat, drink, swim, and play games. It is a great event and Beetle and Angie are incredible hosts. It should not be missed.
