Best of luck to all our athletes participating in “Hustle Up The Hancock” today!!
5 days until the announcement of The CrossFit Games Open WOD 15.1. As I have said over and over again, this is such a great time of year for CrossFit athletes. A time to test our abilities and challenge ourselves to dig deep within ourselves to push harder then we would on a regular WOD and see just how we as individuals stack up in the global movement of the CrossFit Open. We have 34 athletes already signed up. We are 178 strong so I hope against hope this number is going to climb exponentially. To register go to games.crossfit.com and select CrossFit Beverly as your team. We will have a TV set up to watch the live announcement at 7pm. 15.1 ‘s competitors are Rich Froning vs. Mat Fraser, 1 and 2 on 2014’s CrossFit Games.
As far as the Open goes and programming during the next 5 weeks. We will program the Open WOD on both Friday and Saturday. We will also have staff in the Box during Open Gym on Sunday for anyone who may miss Friday and Saturday or anyone who may want a redo. The atmosphere is amazing Saturday mornings. There is no schedule and everyone hangs around and cheers and support each other. I have said it before, but this is my favorite time of year. We will have a briefing of the movement standards at 8:30 and we will have heat assignments beginning at 9:00. We will publish a warm up, but you will be on your own to get it in and warm up on your own. You can treat Friday as a rest day in preparation of Saturday, you can come in to your regular class hour and do mobility and help judge, or you can get the workout done Friday. The choice is yours. We really hope all of you will participate.
Sweat pants are in and available in front of the box with all other merchandise. $40 and they are a unisex sizing. We will be ordering a few Charcoal gray hoodies, not the marled ones we have in stock if anyone wants one. This will be a custom run and we will not be holding inventory, so if you want one please reply to “comments’ here.
As stated in previous news posts, we are going to shake up the schedule a little starting March 10. We will be turning 5pm into a Boot Camp. This change will not effect any of our current membership. No increase for attending. The session will be geared to an audience who may not want to lift barbells or learn Olympic lifts. It will be an hour of programming using plyo work, kettlebells, med balls and met con. Please share with your non-CFB friends who may be intimidated by CrossFit, but want a good workout using CrossFit methodology sans barbells and heavy lifting. If this session proves to be successful we will consider introducing an AM version.
As part of our introduction of Boot Camp to CFB, we have scheduled a Groupon to run Monday March 2. If you have any friends interested in Boot camp share this information. The Groupon is for $84 for 6 weeks (12 sessions.) That is $7 per class and we hope to see a huge turnout to share our fantastic community and space with all our neighbors who are a little timid to try CrossFit. Erika will be leading the classes and she has already programed some pretty intense workouts. We are really looking forward to this new chapter at CFB.
We will begin a new On-Ramp Monday March 9 at 6:30 pm. Through our referral program of 25% off one month’s membership, we have returned $550 in membership dues to athletes who have shared our On-Ramp with friends and family who in turn have joined the program. This is a great opportunity for you to save a couple of bucks while sharing your passion for CFB.
We are proud to be a host gym again for the Fourth Annual Workout to Wipeout Domestic Violence. We have been involved with A.N.D and the Morgan Park Juniors since they started this event and we will continue to support this noble cause as long as the run it and invite us to participate. The date is Saturday March 21. While we will be doing the Open WOD, we would appreciate a $25 donation.
We would really like to send a team of 8 to Michigan City for the United Way Dodgeball Tournament being held May 16 from 10:00-2:00pm at Marquette High School. We preach and promote playing other sports and activities, so what can be more fun then Dodgeball for the United Way? We will put up a sign up sheet for those interested. It would be great to get 2 teams if at all possible.
